As part of Topcon’s sponsorship of Formula 3 driver James Roe Jr., the company had branded his race car throughout the season. In preparation for the CONEXPO 2020 event, the decision was made to feature the car as a centerpiece of the Topcon booth. My role in this project was to redesign the car wrap to align with the event’s theme of “Accelerate,” while incorporating Topcon’s brand colors and graphic elements used throughout the booth. The design aimed to create a seamless visual connection between the car and the booth, reinforcing the overall brand messaging.
The key challenge in this project was to develop a wrap design that effectively communicated the theme of acceleration without overpowering the race car’s sleek aesthetic. While the car already had Topcon branding, the CONEXPO wrap needed to be cohesive with the larger booth design while maintaining the car’s own visual identity. Balancing simplicity with impact was crucial, as the design had to draw attention without overshadowing the car itself or clashing with the booth’s graphic elements.
Exploring different livery concepts for the Formula 3 race car was an exciting process. These initial designs balanced Topcon's brand colors with the need to keep the overall aesthetic clean and focused. Each iteration brought us closer to the final wrap, ensuring the car would make a bold statement at CONEXPO while aligning with the event's theme of 'Accelerate.'
Personal highlight and takeaway
Designing a Formula 3 race car was something I never imagined I'd have the chance to do in my career. Seeing my design come to life on such a high-performance vehicle was an incredibly exciting and unexpected experience, and it’s definitely one of the coolest projects I’ve ever worked on.
The final wrap design was a success, striking the perfect balance between simplicity and bold brand messaging. The car, wrapped in Topcon’s brand colors and booth-aligned graphic elements, communicated the theme of “Accelerate” effectively. The design fit seamlessly into the booth’s visual environment, enhancing the overall presentation without overwhelming the car’s natural form. The project achieved its goal of drawing attention to both the race car and Topcon’s brand messaging, adding a dynamic and visually engaging element to the CONEXPO 2020 booth.
