Topcon Solutions Store Retail Design

The Topcon Solutions Store Retail Design project revolved around transforming the flagship retail store in Indianapolis, a key location for the company's physical presence. The objective was to develop a standardized store layout that could be replicated across various locations to maintain a consistent brand identity. The project required close collaboration with the store manager and contractor to plan and execute a design that was both functional and visually aligned with Topcon's established brand standards. The scope of the project included exterior and interior branding elements, such as logos, window graphics, and custom furniture.

The design process

Topcon needed a retail design that would not only reflect its brand values but also be flexible enough to be easily implemented across multiple store locations. The primary challenge was to create a cohesive look and feel that could serve as a template for future stores, ensuring a seamless customer experience across all locations. Additionally, the design had to balance aesthetics with functionality, providing clear signage, demo spaces, and easy-to-navigate layouts. Managing all these elements while coordinating with a variety of stakeholders (the store manager, contractor, and the Topcon team) added layers of complexity to the project.

To explore different design approaches, I created pre-visual mockups of the layout before finalizing a concept that aligned with the vision.

This project established a scalable, cohesive retail design that strengthened Topcon's brand identity while streamlining the process for opening new locations nationwide.

The outcome

The result was a streamlined, "cookie-cutter" store design that could be rolled out efficiently across multiple locations. After overseeing the implementation in Indianapolis to ensure consistency with the approved design, the new store concept was successfully replicated in other Topcon retail locations nationwide. This standardized approach not only improved the speed and cost-efficiency of opening new stores but also strengthened Topcon’s brand presence by providing a unified and professional customer experience. The design's success has allowed Topcon to maintain visual cohesion across its retail spaces, making each store a reflection of its brand values and dedication to innovation.
